The FAMIS Programs

Virginia has two health insurance programs that provide coverage to low to moderate income children in the Commonwealth - FAMIS and FAMIS Plus. There were two programs that provided coverage to pregnant women - Medicaid for Pregnant Women and FAMIS MOMS. FAMIS MOMS closed to new enrollees on December 31, 2013. Medicaid for Pregnant Women is still open to new enrollees.

Financial eligibility for all these programs is based on how a family's income compares with the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The programs differ slightly in eligibility criteria (financial and non-financial), covered benefits, and delivery of services.
